SUMMARY:Making Moves National Platform
DESCRIPTION:Prelude Youth Dance Company have been selected to perform at Sadler’s Wells East with their latest piece: ‘Answer Back’ – choreographed by Effie and the young company members. The company have been using a choreographic toolkit from Thick & Tight\, as part of the Sadler’s Wells’ Making Moves programme to construct this work. \nOur piece is an answer back to seeing dance being sidelined as a subject in the schools we attend. In our initial discussions\, one of our group shared their experience of their headteacher and school governors deciding to cut GCSE and A Level Dance. Noticing the power that headteachers yield\, we have decided to satirise “Britain’s Strictest Headteacher”. Being able to answer back through the vehicle of dance\, helps us to make the case for dance having value and there being the option study it.

DESCRIPTION:Prelude Youth Dance Company have their first ever performance at the Ascend Gala\, hosted by MK Dance Theatre. \nThe company dancers with Effie have a created a piece called ‘How Our Story Begins…’ – inspired by traditional story beginnings and famous first lines from books. The collection of beginnings also includes mapping out the first few numbers and letters of the alphabet\, playful school playground and sports day energy\, and handshakes both familiar and secret! \nAscend is MK Dance Theatre’s Mid Season Gala – an exciting evening of dance that brings local talent to the forefront of performance and creativity.

SUMMARY:Anthology of Touches
DESCRIPTION:A workshop and sharing from Luke Birch and Effie McGuire Ward in the next phase of their development of Anthology of Touches. \nAnthology of Touches is a dance duet exploring memories and lived experience of touching and being touched. Featuring shared stories documenting moments of touch through movement\, spoken word and recorded conversations. \nLuke and Effie have been delving into their own history of giving and receiving touch. They have also been holding conversations to find common themes\, and different recollections around similar offerings of touch. They have posed the question: ‘is there a memory of touch that you would either re-live\, or erase from your life if you could?’ \nFramed by these conversations\, Anthology of Touches considers instances of touch which range from scientific to personal to the perhaps more universal. \nThe work’s creation has been supported by Pavilion Dance South West\, Hull Dance\, and Hull City Council.
