SUMMARY:Ascent: Performance Gala
DESCRIPTION:A gala performance hosted by Milton Keynes Dance Theatre. \nPrelude Youth Dance Company are guest performers with their latest piece: ‘Answer Back’ – choreographed by Effie and the young company members. The company have been using a choreographic toolkit from Thick & Tight\, as part of the Sadler’s Wells’ Making Moves programme to construct this work. \nOur piece is an answer back to seeing dance being sidelined as a subject in the schools we attend. In our initial discussions\, one of our group shared their experience of their headteacher and school governors deciding to cut GCSE and A Level Dance. Noticing the power that headteachers yield\, we have decided to satirise “Britain’s Strictest Headteacher”. Being able to answer back through the vehicle of dance\, helps us to make the case for dance having value and there being the option study it.
